Conclusions: Incorporating Ethics into Science and Technology Policy
Research and innovation in emerging technologies can have great benefits but also raise ethical and social concerns. The current discourse on Responsible Research and Innovation RRI is a novel attempt to come to conceptual and practical ways of dealing with such concerns. Science and ethics
Less than years ago, science was a dangerous business. In , the Italian monk Giordano Bruno was sentenced to death and burned at the stake because he believed in free thinking in philosophy and science. But while scientific progress has been rapid and astonishing, it is still disturbing for those people who feel excluded from the debate surrounding the application of science in new technologies and products. Furthermore, as scientific progress becomes increasingly fundamental to society, it is constantly challenging if not completely clashing with long-held beliefs concerning our ethical values. It is, therefore, necessary to conduct ethical discussions in order to adapt the use of scientific knowledge—namely new forms of technology—to a general context that is in agreement with the basic principles of our civilisation.
However scientists and technology developers or users have not remained immune to the growing ethical concerns of different kinds of people around the world in.

In this respect, the most significant influence shaping the content and direction of ethics derives from cultural norms and social values. The incorporation of ethics in policy making takes two distinct but interconnected routes: one via official advisory structures and the other via lay debates.
