The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of servant leadership on job satisfaction within private healthcare practices. Criterion sampling has been used to draw a sample of private healthcare practitioners and their employees. The data collected from useable questionnaires have been statistically analysed. The findings show that private healthcare practitioners display the dimensions of servant leadership investigated in this study. Furthermore, a significant positive relationship between developing others and job satisfaction for both sample groups, but only between caring for others and job satisfaction for the employee sample group, was reported. Acts of humility and servanthood by practitioners were not found to influence job satisfaction. Educators can use the findings of this study to identify gaps in the leadership training of healthcare practitioners, and healthcare regulators can use the recommendations provided to implement appropriate interventions to ensure that healthcare practitioners fulfil their mandate of practising in an appropriate manner.

With the aim to enhance the senior nursing managers to be caring leaders so that they can nurture their team members to be holistic care providers, a one year program has been developed with emphasis on self-reflection and self-cultivation. It aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a one-year leadership enhancement program in an acute general hospital. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches were adopted. A pre and post questionnaire survey and the content analysis of self-reflective essays were conducted. The overall means of the servant leadership scale and the workplace wellness scale were significantly higher after the program. Both scales were also found to have a significantly medium level of positive correlation. Reflective essays showed positive feedbacks complementing the quantitative data that the program was well received and effective.

Decreased work performance can be seen as a form of withdrawal caused by a decrease in devotion to work physically, emotionally and cognitively. This may lead to lower productivity, distractions and low motivation to work. Within the workplace, just as in our larger society, leaders play an essential role in guiding people in times of crisis to reduce anxiety and for business leaders to promote work performance and customer service. Health-care leaders must address registered nurse job dissatisfaction in acute health-care settings to mitigate the critical nursing shortage. The quantitative research study with a correlational design determined a the extent that RNs perceive servant leadership behaviors in nonprofit, acute health-care settings, and b the relationship between perceptions of servant leadership behaviors and individual job satisfaction. A stratified sample of RNs from two nonprofit acute care hospitals in the northwestern U. Results indicate a strong correlation between perceptions of servant leader behaviors and RN job satisfaction in acute health-care settings. Implications for leadership include recruiting and developing servant-minded nurse leaders who can create a caring and satisfying servant-minded nursing practice culture.
